More PSW Grads Now Eligible for Bridge to Practical Nursing

Courses Start Week of September 8, 2009

  • To be eligible for the bridge program, you must present an official transcript indicating that you are a Personal Support Worker graduate
  • The part-time bridge courses start week of September 8, at the college's campuses in Peterborough, Lindsay and Cobourg (pending sufficient enrolment)
  • After successfully completing the required part-time courses, PSWs will be eligible to enter into second semester of Fleming College's full-time Practical Nursing program at the college’s campus in Peterborough in January every year. There is room for 30 bridging students to enter the program in January 2010.
  • Financial support may be available through Ontario Special Bursary Funding (for tuition, books, supplies) or Part-time Canada Student Loans

The bridge program for PSWs who graduated with an Ontario College Certificate in or after 2006 is generally 2 courses. For all other PSW bridge graduates, the bridge program is typically 5 or 6 courses. Your application will be assessed to determine which bridge courses you need and if you are eligible for any exemptions.

Next Steps:

  1. Complete the application form and submit it as soon as possible with your official transcript
  2. Once we have assessed your application, we will inform you of the bridge courses that you need and provide you with registration information.
  3. Financial Aid: when you know how many courses you will be taking and when, you can contact our financial aid office to find out if you are eligible for financial support.

Required Courses:

For PSWs who graduated with an Ontario College Certificate in or after 2006, in most instances, these are the courses required:

  • Bridged Anatomy & Physiology I (NRSG 182)
  • Transitional Concepts for PSW Bridging (NRSG 183)

For PSWs who graduated with an Ontario College Certificate in 2005 or earlier, these are generally the courses required:

  • Anatomy and Physiology I (SCIE 2)
  • Transitional Concepts for PSW Bridging (NRSG 183)
  • Introduction to Communications
  • Introduction to Computers
  • Field Preparation and Success Strategies
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention
