Work In Canada
Recent changes by Canada Immigration have expanded opportunities for international students to work in Canada. For work opportunities, please see the following information.
On-Campus Work
International students in full-time attendance at Canadian colleges and universities may work on campus n the following instances:- The position is on-campus and of a part-time nature (not more than 20 hours per week. Students do not require a work permit for on-campus work.
Please note : on-campus jobs are limited.
Off-Campus Work Permits
International students may now work off-campus under the following conditions:
- They have completed six months of full-time study in their program; and
- they are in good academic standing at the college; and
- the off-campus employment is not more than 20 hours per week.
For off-campus work, students must obtain a special work permit from Canada Immigration. Please contact the International Office for details and application forms.
Post-Graduate Work Permits
Upon completion of their post secondary studies at Fleming College, international students may work for up to two years in Canada. Their position must be directly related to their field of study. At the end of this period, international students may either return for further study at college or university or return to their home country.

Spouses of International Students
Non-student spouses may accept off-campus employment either on a part-time or full-time basis. It is illegal to accept any employment without written permission of the Minister of Manpower and Immigration. Failure to obtain the proper documents could result in deportation. Please understand that these changes in the Immigration Act will not affect application procedures for study permit. International students are still required to show proof of sufficient funds to support themselves [and their spouses] for the duration of their stay in Canada.
