Campus Information for Haliburton

Haliburton Campus - Fleming College

Part of the Fleming College vision is to provide community access to higher education. The Haliburton campus serves the local community through part-time studies, academic upgrading and the Employment Resource Centre. It is also an inspiring and relaxing location that draws students from all over the world to the renowned Haliburton School of The Arts and to the unique Sustainable Building Design and Construction program. And each year Horticulture apprentices from across the province are trained here as well.

Green Building Innovation Starts Here

Since 2005 Fleming’s Haliburton Campus has offered an intensive compressed certificate program that focuses on building construction methods with the least possible environmental impact. The Sustainable Building Design and Construction program is the only one of its kind in Canada. During the program, which runs from April to August each year, students design and build a completely sustainable facility in partnership with a selected client. Last year, program coordinator and renowned environmental builder Chris Magwood was the recipient of a 2008 Excellence in Education Award for Promotion of Sustainable Practices from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC).

EcoAdventure at Fleming College

Fleming College officially celebrated the opening of its new campus in Haliburton in October 2004.

The new campus was constructed with a $5.5-million grant from the province's SuperBuild fund and $2.5-million in donations from businesses and individuals.

Located on an inspirational setting overlooking Head Lake on land donated by the municipality, the new campus offers students three spacious art studios, six classrooms, a library and a campus store. The heart of the building is a three-storey Great Hall with an adjacent gathering place and servery for the community and students.
